Spotlight Search Limits - File Types

To limit the scope of the kinds of files searched by iForgot's Spotlight Search capabilities, select the file types searched by iForgot.

Searchable File Types

  • Documents - files with "document" or "file" in the file's document type field, which will typically include iWork and Office documents, and text files
  • Images - files with "image" in the file's document type, which will typically include all JPG, TIFF, and Bitmap Images
  • Email - Apple Mail messages and archives in any folder
  • Archives - files with "archive" in the the file's document type, which will typically include Zip Files
  • Video Files - files with "video" or "movie" in the file's document type, which typically include Quicktime and iMovie files
  • Audio Files - files with "audio" or "sound" in the file's document type, which typically include Quicktime and iTunes files
  • Disk Images - Apple Disk Image or ISO Disk Image files
  • Applications - Executable applications, including standalone AppleScript applications
  • Clippings - Text or imagery snippets saved in Apple Clippings files
  • Applescript - AppleScript files
