Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
- Q: What is iForgot?
A: iForgot turns your cell phone or work email into a remote control for your Mac. Using simple commands that you 'text' from your cell phone or emailed from your work email account, you can command your Mac to look for and send you documents, fax files, or launch applications that you need running.
- Q: How Long Does iForgot Take to Respond?
A: iForgot will only respond as quickly as your remote device email provider allows, and as often as your home computer checks email. If your computer only checks mail every 10 minutes, you might not get a response for up to 10 minutes. If possible (and as your ISP allows), decrease the frequency that your home computer checks your receiver account for mail.
- Q: Is it safe?
A:Like anything on the web, 'safe' is up to you. Most commands are perfectly safe and will only respond to commands sent from your remote device. However, if you misconfigure your Mac or the iForgot settings, you could expose yourself to some risks. Please read the documentation fully and ensure you understand all of the settings before enabling iForgot.
- Q: What can I do with it?
A:It's up to you! Using the built in commands, you can use Spotlight to find and forward documents, launch iTunes or iPhoto, or fax documents. You can create your own customized commands to launch applications or run AppleScripts that you create for nearly endless possibilities. Click here for some ideas
- Q: Why do I need it?
A:Like auto insurance, you never know when you're going to need it. Most of us can't work without computers, and most of us with Macs get a lot of enjoyment from our Macs. If you are at work and forgot that important document on your computer, or you forgot to bring that great photo from your last vacation, you can use iForgot.
