Frequently Asked Questions

FTP Preferences

Use the "FTP (Non .Mac)" preference pane to configure Blog.Mac to use your own web server instead of Apple's .Mac service.
While some features of .Mac will not be available, most of the same functionality will work very well via FTP.

Publish Blog On My Own Web Space Instead of .Mac

If you want to use your own web site instead of publishing your blog on your .Mac site, you need to prepare your web space in order to use Blog.Mac. Begin by creating a folder on your web space in a publicly accessible web folder. In most cases, web pages are stored in the www or htdocs folder, so create your blog folder in this location. Once this folder is created, upload the folder found in the "FTP Information" folder found in the Blog.Mac installer package.

FTP Server

Enter the URL of your web server that accepts FTP connections. This might be www.yourwebserver.com or ftp.yourwebserver.com. If you do not specify your server with ftp before your domain name, you might need to enter an FTP port afterwards, like this: www.yourwebserver.com:21. Do not enter http:// in this field.

Upload Path

Enter the name of the folder that you prepared for your blog, which is usually inside a www or htdocs folder. This might be www/blog or htdocs/blog.

Web Server URL

Enter the URL of your web server which is normally www.yourwebserver.com. Do not enter http:// in this field.

User Name

Enter the user name of the account that will be used for uploads. For increased security, we recommend that you use a different account than your root or administrator account.

Password

Enter the password for the account you used above. This password will be stored securely in your Keychain.
